My quest is to seek out a means of celebrating Wales’ unique qualities in what for many is just a familiar landscape.
Wales is a country blessed with mountains, moorlands, valleys, beaches, a rugged coastline and above all those all-encompassing skies inhabited by a people rich in history, heart, soul, ‘hiraeth’.
I am basically a self-taught oil painter who started late in life in 2013, aged 57. I follow my instinct and paint anything that makes my socks go up and down, whether it be a simple old soul in Swansea market: The Lady Loves Prada or the forever changing light and atmosphere of Swansea Bay and the Gower Peninsular.
My work is mainly in oils. My process is to seek inspiration whilst walking, making rough sketches with notes and working up larger pieces in the studio.
Swansea is my home, but a great deal of inspiration comes from North Wales and especially Italy, the homeland of my ancestors.
All of my work is created and sold for the benefit of three children’s charities: Ty Hafan Children’s Hospice, Hands Up For Downs and Stepping Stones, Swansea. Funds have been raised from two solo exhibitions and and three group exhibitions since 2015.
